Please Read Before Applying

It takes time to schedule your first consultation after we receive your application.
Because of group shelter life, a dog's behavior at home may differ from what you saw.
Submitting an application does not guarantee approval.
If multiple applications come in for one dog, priority goes to the household most committed and best-matched.
You may need to accompany the dog to the vet during fostering.
Households with a child under 12 may have limited consultations (foster & adoption).
Households with 3 or more pets total will be declined for fostering.
Bigdog Forest declines very short-term fostering. Please decide with care.

Foster Conditions

Foster Period

2–3 months minimum. For a dog scheduled to fly abroad, fostering is possible until the departure date.

Cost

Food, pads, toys, basic vaccines, and parasite meds are covered by the foster. Long-term meds for congenital conditions are supported by us.

Consult Before Grooming

Please consult staff before grooming. A full clip makes an overseas adoption recommendation impossible.

Weekly Updates

Please share the dog's updates at least once a week. Fostering may end if this isn't kept.

One Month's Notice to End

To prepare the next foster home, please contact us at least one month before ending.

Indoor Living Only

Bigdog Forest is committed to indoor living only. We do not accept outdoor-living applications.

Eligibility

For single-person households and newlyweds, we also call family members who live separately (parents / in-laws).
Those under 27 cannot be the primary applicant.
For those under 26, we consult with a parent first.
Those 70+ living alone may find adoption difficult.
Households with a child under 12 may have limited consultations.
Households with 3 or more pets total are declined.
All foster dogs may become subjects of overseas adoption.

Single-person households, cohabiting couples, and newlyweds are excluded from adoption, but if you'd like to welcome a family member, we first recommend fostering. After 3+ months of fostering and enough communication with us, you may apply for adoption and go through screening. Through years of experience, Bigdog Forest works to prevent returns and makes sure fosters and adopters never face difficulties alone — we provide the fullest possible after-care and monitoring.
